Note From the Coach
Like most entrepreneurs, my wife and I are seeing some shifts in our business.
We choose not to get caught up in the negativity of the economy albeit
are aware that many of the people we do business with are concerned.
This is an interesting time we are in. And, another opportunity to keep moving toward that which we desire.

Recession? What Recession?
It’s hard to escape the barrage of doom and gloom from the
media on the declining state of the economy.
Is it really as bad as the media would have you believe?
Personally, I think not. Although there are several aspects of the
current economy that feel less than optimal, it is a temporary
state.
Throughout history, there has always been up times and down times.
What determines the actual impact for you is your mindset.
Einstein said “The
way you see the problem IS the problem.”
If you are not liking what you are looking at, how can you shift your
perspective to find the opportunities in the situation?
The dinosaurs died out because they were unable to adapt to
rapidly-changing climates. In the business world, the ability to adapt
and respond effectively to changes in the marketplace will ensure you
don’t become a dinosaur.
One of my favorite quotes from Jack Canfield is in the 1st chapter of
his awesome book The
Success Principles. E + R = O. Where E = Event, R
= your Response and O = Outcome. Simply put, it is not the event itself
that dictates the outcome it is how you respond to it. More
significantly – how you choose to respond to it.
Note that there is a significant difference between reacting
and responding.
Reacting is the knee-jerk type action where you move more
from a reflex than anything else. Thus, you are not actually thinking
about it, and you are not choosing your response. Bearing in mind the
above equation, the event is dictating the outcome.
Responding is where you think about what has occurred and you choose
the optimal action to take. Taking the time to think and choose will
assist you in finding the opportunities in each situation.
The more clear you are on your ‘why’, your purpose
for your
life and business, the more focused you will be. Regardless of what
happens in the world, the marketplace or the economy, your vision
remains the same. As you focus on your vision and the level of success
you desire, your thinking and ideas will reflect that level and you
will be optimally positioned to keep growing.
Once you take your eye off the prize, and you allow yourself to be
diverted by whatever issues are apparent, you are now thinking in near
term, react mode and your emphasis is simply on getting by.
See the difference?
It may feel counter-intuitive to stay focused on your dreams when you
feel like things are happening that require a swift change in course
& tactics. Although you may need to adjust your strategy to
respond
to whatever situations occur, it must not be at the expense of your
vision. The overall objective is to live the life that you want to
live. Any adjustments in actions or course must simply be made in
alignment with where you want to end up.
In summary – whether you feel there is a recession is totally
up
to how you choose to see things. When you know that your success is
dependent upon that which you already have within you: your ability to
think, create, adapt and produce, nothing can
hold you back from
achieving that which you desire.
