A Note From the Coach

I love summertime. After being cooped up through the Indiana winter, it is so great to be able to spend time outdoors again.

This summer is starting to heat up already. In addition to several speaking engagements and travel opportunities, I get to spend time with my son when he is up for summer vacation.

Our home businesses make it all possible. How cool is that?

5 Ways YOU can cause your lack of support

When you are passionate about your business and getting frustrated with your other half when they don’t want to participate, it can be eye-opening to learn how you may be contributing to the situation.

#1 Your life revolves around your business.
Your business is growing and you have an expanding group of customers and team members. Someone always needs something and you are always there for them. Most of your time awake is spent on some aspect of your business. Which means time isn’t being spent on other important things – like your relationship. A little balance can go a long way. Your other half doesn’t want all your time – he just needs to know when he can have some of it.

#2 You take him for granted.
You receive a phone call that there is a meeting tomorrow night that you simply have to attend. No problem, you tell your partner of the change in your schedule and that he needs to be home watching the children. Most men don’t have a problem with helping out. They just like a little lead time and to be asked.

#3 You’re not enjoying what you’re doing.
One of the key ways to interest a man in participating in something is to make it fun. If you are clearly not enjoying what you are doing, your man is not going to want to participate. As he does not like to see the most important person in his life suffer, he will attempt to be practical and offer advice you don’t want to hear. Remember that he will see what you are showing. If you want him to be interested in participating in your business, keep it appealing.

#4 You’re not treating your business like a business.
How you represent your business to your significant other will have a huge impact on him being interested in participating. Do you appear professional & business-like, or does it look like you have an expensive hobby? Your husband may not understand the nature of what you do albeit that will not matter if you are presenting a business image to him.

#5 You’re focused on what you don’t have.
When you are passionate about your business and your other half doesn’t seem interested, it can be tempting to tell him how much it bothers you to not have his support. Prior to doing so, pay attention to all that he does do that assists you in your business. Ie: Does he contribute to the household bills? Does he do chores around the house? Does he spend more time with the kids? Although those activities may not be related to your business, they are supportive of you. Men love acknowledgement and appreciation. Acknowledge that which you do have and you will inspire them to want to do more for you.

Being aware of how you may be contributing to the lack of support for your business is the first step to gaining the support you desire.
